Ron Artest, PETA spokesman

Image (1) Artest.jpg for post 340

Ron Artest used to have a dog, but by his own admission gave it away because he didn’t know hot to take care of it. His dogs spent more than two months in a county shelter because he neglected them while he was in Sacramento. Two of his dogs died after being hit by cars.

So that means he makes the perfect spokesman for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

For the second time Artest has teamed up with PETA for a campaign, this time aimed at the large stray/homeless (I’m sure there’s a politically correct term for this I don’t care about) dog population in the city. In a billboard in the heart of Los Angeles urging people to have their dogs spayed or neutered. “It’s a slam dunk” is one catchphrase, the other is “have the balls to spay or neuter your dog,” both worthy of Letterman.

Tuesday is national spay day -- of course there is a national spay day, stop snickering -- and the billboard was unveiled to coincide with that. This is a good cause, and you should get your dog (or cat) clipped. And if Ron Artest can get more people to do that... well, great. Weird, but great.
