Stephen Curry on teams copying Warriors: “You won’t have the personnel”

Since the Golden State Warriors’ rise as a world-destroying juggernaut, there’s been talk that it’s going to shift the paradigm of how teams play basketball. In particular, the Warriors’ unstoppable smallball lineup with Draymond Green at center has provided a blueprint for other teams to emulate. Stephen Curry is well aware of this.

But in a new interview with ESPN The Magazine‘s Sam Alipour, Curry nails why it doesn’t matter if every team starts trying to copy their model:

You can try to copy it, but you won’t have the personnel. There isn’t another Draymond Green, another Klay, another Andre. If you put your small-ball lineup next to ours, we like our chances.

That’s exactly it. No other team can replicate the Warriors because there are no other players like Draymond Green, as much as teams have been trying to find theirs. Plus, you know, Curry himself being the greatest shooter in the history of the game. That’s something that nobody will replicate anytime soon. Golden State’s combination of depth and personnel that perfectly compliments each other is something that can’t be used as a model — you just have to hope you can catch lightning in a bottle like this.
