Steve Nash is moving into a front office job.
Well, not yet in the NBA. He’ll be courted as a free agent this summer and land in New York or Dallas or stay in Phoenix, but he’ll play a few more years. Instead, he is taking over a front office role with the Canadian basketball program, tweets Eric Koreen of the National Post.
This is not unlike when Wayne Gretzky helped take over the Canadian national hockey Olympics program.
Canada has some good young talent coming up through the national team pipeline. Such as Tristan Thompson, the rookie forward with the Cavaliers. At times in the past it has been a challenge to get Canadians like Samuel Dalembert and Joel Anthony to play for the national team, but if Nash asks them it could be different.
The USA is going to remain the dominant power in the region, but there certainly is room for a second strong program to challenge them.
