Steven Smith has made the Sixers’ final 15-man roster.
The man he was competing with, Ivan McFarlin, also made it. “That can only be an asset to us because those guys are hard workers,” coach Mo Cheeks said. “They’re very good listeners. When they step out on the floor, they’re good for our team. Any time you can have guys like that on your team, they make the other guys work.”

The Sixers have invited forward Steven Smith to training camp.
Smith, a 6-8 player from La Salle, was a two-time Atlantic 10 player of the year. The Sixers worked him out prior to the draft, but he wasn’t taken by them or any other team this season.

Rookie forwards Ivan McFarlin or Steven Smith are competing for the Sixers final roster spot.
“We don’t know how many we’re going to carry just yet,” coach Maurice Cheeks said. “We’ve got a few days to make that decision, and we’ve got a few practices left to decide whether we’re going to do it or not, and we’ll go from there.” Smith averaged 4.8 points and 1.3 boards in the preseason.

The Sixers waived forward Steven Smith on Thursday.
Jan. 10 is the day non-guaranteed contracts become guaranteed, so we’re seeing several 14th and 15th men cut right now.

Steven Smith could have his contract guaranteed for the remainder of the season if he remains on the roster until January 10.
The Sixers have until Friday to let him know if they are planning on waiving him. He’s appeared in just eight games this season and hasn’t played at all since December 20, so he really is scraping the bottom of the roster as is.
