NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reports that former Bills DE Aaron Schobel is contemplating a return to football.
There were some internet rumblings of this possibility last week. Schobel turns 35 before the season, but La Canfora reports that at least “a few teams” have reached out to the former two-time Pro Bowler. Just for dot-connecting purposes, some coaches with which Schobel has a background include Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey, Browns DC Dick Jauron, and Giants DC Perry Fewell.

Former Bills DE Aaron Schobel told the Buffalo News Thursday that he now plans to stay in retirement.
NFL Network reported Wednesday that at least “a few teams” had reached out to Schobel in retirement. The Buffalo News confirms that Schobel was “flattered,” but has no plans to make a comeback. The 34-year-old’s career ended after the 2009 season. Schobel is second in Bills history in sacks, behind Bruce Smith.

  • BUF Defensive Lineman
Aaron Schobel is confident he’ll begin racking up sacks soon.
Buffalo signed the defensive end to a big contract extension last month, but Schobel is O-for 2004. The Bills defensive line is last in the NFL with four sacks in three games.
  • BUF Defensive Lineman
Aaron Schobel showed up for Buffalo’s second week of OTAs.
The team’s leading sackmaster may have skipped the first week to let the Bills know he’s unhappy with his compensation. He’s under contract for three more seasons and remains one of the elite defensive ends in all of football.
  • FA Quarterback
The New York Daily News believes that Kellen Clemens could see action Sunday against the Bills if Chad Pennington struggles.
The Jets confirmed Pennington will start the game, but he remains a high-risk fantasy play because he may not finish. Buffalo’s secondary is weak from a talent standpoint, but plays hard and boasts proficient pass rushers.
  • BUF Defensive Lineman
Aaron Schobel has reportedly been mentioned in trade rumors among league personnel people. Washington could be a fit.
It would be quite a surprise for the Bills to give up their best defensive lineman. In the same post on Redskins Insider, Buffalo is mentioned as one of the few teams to show any interest in Alex Brown. Schobel wants more money after the team shelled out huge bucks to lesser players.
  • BUF Defensive Lineman
Aaron Schobel was a no-show at OTAs for Buffalo Tuesday.
Schobel has been mentioned in trade rumors recently. There appears to be little risk of him holding out, and he’ll probably be at mandatory minicamp in two weeks.

Bills defensive end Aaron Schobel returned to practice Wednesday.
Schobel, the subject of recent trade rumors, missed Tuesday’s workout.
  • HOU Defensive Lineman
Bills DE Ryan Denney will undergo surgery for a broken foot on Monday.
This sounds like a Lisfranc fracture, but that isn’t confirmed. The Bills remain confident that Denney will make it back at some point this season and won’t place him on I.R. right away. Chris Kelsay and Aaron Schobel will see increased workloads early in the year, which could bolster their IDP values.
