The Steelers left a spot open on their practice squad, so we’re guessing St. Pierre will be back.

The team also welcomed fifth-round Nathaniel Adibi’s return on their eight-man practice squad. Pittsburgh is going with just two active quarterbacks. Antwaan Randle-El is the third-stringer.

He’ll be their No. 3 quarterback.

With Charlie Batch out for the year, St. Pierre looks guaranteed to keep his roster spot.

With Ben Roethlisberger entrenched as the team’s starter, St. Pierre will have to beat out either Tommy Maddox or Charlie Batch. ''I’m up against Charlie and Tommy who have started a lot of games in the NFL,’' St. Pierre said. ''There aren’t too many guys in my position, fighting two former starters to make the roster. But I feel I can play with those guys. They’re very good quarterbacks, but it’s not intimidating for me to be out there at all.’'

He’ll be Pittsburgh’s backup quarterback for Thursday night’s opener.

He’ll be the No. 3 QB. With backup Ben Roethlisberger slightly banged-up, the Steelers didn’t want to take any chances.

The team signed Mike Quinn to the practice squad. Look for the Steelers to continue to look for veteran help.

At this point, however, the team will stay with Brian St. Pierre as their backup. Tommy Maddox may be ready to play in a few weeks.

If he clears waivers, he’ll be signed to the practice squad later this week.
