C.J. Mosley retired from the NFL after 10 seasons.
Originally drafted by the Ravens in 2014, Mosley made five career Pro Bowls and had 1,083 career combined tackles, 10 forced fumbles, 12 interceptions and 12 sacks over his 10-season career. Mosley joined the Jets in 2019 and was a team captain on defense. Mosley’s 2024 season was limited to just four games due to a neck injury, and he managed just 17 total tackles in the games he appeared in.

    Jets released LB C.J. Mosley.
Mosley is designated as a post-June 1 cut, meaning the Jets will save $4 million with the move. The 32-year-old has been the captain of the Jets’ defense when healthy but dealt with a neck injury in 2024. Originally drafted by the Ravens, Mosley has made five career Pro Bowls and has 1,083 career combined tackles, 10 forced fumbles, 12 interceptions, and 12 sacks over his 10-season career. The Athletic’s Zach Rosenblatt previously reported that he believed Mosley would retire in the offseason. He leaves behind a storied career if he does hang it up, but if Mosley chooses to return, he would have a market as a starting linebacker.

The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt believes Jets LB C.J. Mosley is “most likely” to retire this offseason.
In an article where he looked at the Jets’ 2025 cap situation, Rosenblatt said Mosley is likely to be released by the team or retire this offseason while adding that “the most likely outcome is that he retires.” Mosley’s 2024 was limited to just four games due to a neck injury, and he managed just 17 total tackles in the games he appeared in. It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen neck injuries for early retirements, as the Cowboys saw a number of neck injuries prematurely end Leighton Vander Esch’s career last offseason. Mosley will turn 33 this off-season and has just one year left on his deal. If he is released, the Jets can save $4 million against the 2025 cap while taking on a dead cap hit just north of $8.7 million.

Jets placed LB C.J. Mosley (neck) on injured reserve.
Mosley has been out over a month with the neck issue and previously missed time with a toe injury. Though he could technically return from injured reserve in Week 18, that’s not going to happen for the 32-year-old linebacker. Mosley will almost certainly end the year with 17 tackles and no other counting stats of note across four games. Mosley is under contract with the Jets for one more season.

Jets LB C.J. Mosley (neck) said he’s “hopeful” of playing at some point this season.
He would not go as far as to say he’s optimistic that he’ll play in Week 13. Mosley has not played since leaving Week 8’s game and would have been on injured reserve at this point for most organizations. The fact that the Jets are letting him speak to the media suggests his return is at least somewhat close, but it’s hard to understand his timetable. It could also be argued that the Jets might be better off letting younger linebackers play and seeing what they have in a lost season.

Jets declared LB C.J. Mosley (neck) inactive for Week 10 against the Cardinals.
The stud linebacker will miss his third straight game but slot CB Michael Carter II (back) is available and the offensive line will at least be intact. RG Alijah Vera-Tucker (ankle) and LG John Simpson (groin) are both active. The Jets also declared DT Solomon Thomas, OT Carter Warren, RB Izzy Abanikanda and G Jake Hanson inactive.

Jets declared LB CJ Mosley (neck), G Alijah Vera-Tucker (ankle), S Ashtyn Davis (Concussion), S Tony Adams (Hamstring), CB Qwan’tez Stiggers, RB Israel Abanikanda and T Carter Warren inactive for Week 9 against the Texans.
The Jets are dealing with a plethora of injury issues, and also placed Allen Lazard and Leki Fotu on injured reserve earlier Thursday. With Mosley out, Chazz Surratt should see the bulk of snaps at his linebacker position with Surratt playing through a heel injury.

Jets LB C.J. Mosley (neck) will not play in Week 9 against the Texans.
Defensive tackle Leki Fotu was also ruled out. Mosley suffered the neck injury in Week 8. He underwent an MRI after the game and has since consulted with a spine specialist. All of this points to an extended absence for the veteran linebacker.

Jets LB C.J. Mosley (neck) did not participate in Tuesday’s practice.
Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said Mosley would be seeing a neck and spine specialist on Monday. This indicates Mosley will miss extended time, at the least Thursday night against the Texans. His backup, LB Chazz Surratt, was limited with a heel injury on Tuesday after being listed with a ‘DNP’ on Monday.

Jets interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said C.J. Mosley (neck) had an MRI and is visiting a neck and spine specialist.
Mosley left Week 8’s game against the Patriots with a neck injury and was ruled out. These are not the words you’re wanting to read if you thought Mosley would be playing on Thursday against the Texans. Chazz Surratt replaced Mosley on Sunday and will likely start again on Thursday. Mosley, obviously, also did not practice today for the Jets.
