Chase Edmonds’ (knee, injured reserve) injury is season-ending.
In other words, the veteran depth piece will not be cut loose with an injury settlement. Going on 29 with increasingly smaller workloads, Edmonds is now in danger of falling out of the league next year.
  • TB Running Back #22
Buccaneers placed RB Chase Edmonds (undisclosed) on injured reserve.
That ends the veteran running back’s season before it began. We’re still waiting to hear what the ailment was that cost Edmonds his season, which is surely to come down the pipeline soon. The Buccaneers kept just three running backs on the final 53-man roster, Rachaad White, rookie Bucky Irving, and Sean Tucker.
  • TB Running Back #22
Buccaneers HC Todd Bowles said Chase Edmonds (undisclosed) will likely open the season on injured reserve.
Edmonds has been dealing with an undisclosed injury and has missed multiple weeks as a result of that injury. Injuries also slowed him in 2023, as he appeared in 13 games while rushing for 176 scoreless yards on 49 carries. Edmonds has no fantasy upside at this time and wouldn’t be any higher than RB3 on Tampa Bay’s depth chart. In addition to Edmonds, wide receiver Rakim Jarrett (undisclosed) is also expected to start the year on injured reserve.

Bucky Irving rushed six times for 28 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s preseason game against the Bengals.
Irving was the second running back on the field for the Bucs on Saturday and saw action two series. His touchdown came on a five-year run late in the first quarter, and he also added one catch for no gain. Veteran Chase Edmonds remains sidelined with an undisclosed injury, but Irving is likely a safe bet to win the backup job behind starter Rachaad White. Irving rushed for 2,937 yards and 20 touchdowns during his college career while adding another 95-785-5 through the air. He’s worth a late-round flyer in deeper leagues and could have some top-24 upside if White were ever to miss time.
  • TB Running Back #22
Buccaneers re-signed RB Chase Edmonds to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.
Edmonds should once again slot in behind starter Rachaad White, a role that allowed Edmonds 49 carries and 14 receptions in 2023. White ranked fourth in the league in snap rate a season ago, leaving Edmonds nothing more than a potentially viable running back handcuff for fantasy purposes heading into the new league year.
  • TB Linebacker #7
Buccaneers listed Shaquil Barrett (ankle) as questionable for Sunday’s Divisional Round matchup against the Lions.
Barrett was a DNP on Wednesday and Thursday but logged a limited session on Friday to close out the week. Barrett played in the Bucs’ Wild Card win over the Eagles but failed to record a tackle on any of his 44 snaps. We’d expect him to suit up on Sunday, barring any setbacks. In addition to Barret, the Buccaneers also listed Chase Edmonds (toe) as questionable.
  • TB Running Back #22
Buccaneers RB Chase Edmonds (toe) did not participate in Wednesday’s walkthrough.
Edmonds has operated as the Bucs’ backup running back for much of the season, getting eight touches in the team’s Wild Card victory over the Eagles. Rachaad White continues to handle the bulk of the backfield touches, but Edmonds’ utility in the passing game is useful when he is on the field. A toe issue kept Edmonds out of Wednesday’s walkthrough, though he will have chances to return to practice before Sunday’s Divisional game against the Lions.
  • TB Running Back #22
Chase Edmonds rushed eight times for 40 yards in the Buccaneers’ Week 14 win over the Falcons, adding two receptions for 18 additional yards.
Edmonds saw an increase in opportunity this week, averaging five yards per carry. He took some receiving work from Rachaad White, but stayed a distant second in the Bucs’ backfield, seeing most of his work between the 20’s. If Edmonds continues to see this level of work, he has flex upside, but for now is best left on fantasy benches for Week 15 against the Packers.
  • TB Running Back #22
Chase Edmonds rushed one time for 11 yards in the Bucs’ Week 12 loss to the Colts.
Edmonds failed to catch his only target. He was the only backup to see a touch in Week 12. Edmonds is the clear RB2 in Tampa Bay, but that role has no standalone value with Rachaad White dominating the touches.
  • TB Running Back #22
Chase Edmonds played eight snaps in the Bucs’ Week 8 loss to the Bills.
He handled four touches for 21 yards. Active for the first time since Week 2 after coming off injured reserve, Edmonds battled Ke’Shawn Vaughn for Rachaad White’s scraps. Pro Football Focus charted White as handling 55-of-67 plays. With White finally providing some production as a pass catcher, there is almost no reason to expect a change in the Bucs’ backfield status quo.
