Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports the Chargers have requested permission to interview Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub for their head coaching vacancy.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the Broncos are expected to do the same. With the Chiefs on bye, Toub is eligible to interview this week. One of the best special teams coordinators in the league, Toub has had a couple interviews for head coaching positions, but none in recent years. By all accounts, he would make a great head coach.

CBS’ Jason La Canfora reports the Broncos plan to interview Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub for their head-coaching vacancy.
The Broncos join fellow Chiefs divisional rival San Diego in seeking to interview Toub, who is highly regarded in league circles. Hiring a special teams coordinator in unorthodox, but not unprecedented, as John Harbaugh can attest.

Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub will interview for the Broncos’ head-coaching vacancy on Friday.
Falcons OC Kyle Shanahan is scheduled to interview on Saturday while Dolphins DC Vance Joseph is expected to meet with the Broncos sometime next week. Toub is also known to be on the Chargers’ wish list. The Denver job would obviously be the most appealing but Shanahan is believed to be the favorite for that position.

CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reports Colts GM candidate Chris Ballard is “high” on Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub as a head-coaching candidate.
La Canfora suggests Ballard could bring Toub to Indy in 2018 if Chuck Pagano indeed stays on as Colts head coach for another year. La Canfora does not believe owner Jim Irsay’s intention to keep Pagano is a “deal breaker” in contract talks with Ballard, who has now interviewed twice for the Colts’ GM vacancy. Either way, Toub is a name to keep in mind long term for Indianapolis.

Chiefs promoted Dave Toub to assistant coach.
In addition to his new role as Andy Reid’s right-hand man, Toub will continue to serve as Kansas City’s special teams coordinator, a position he’s held since 2013. “Dave has had the opportunity to work with our team on both sides of the football, on the field and in the classroom,” said Reid. “His leadership qualities have entrusted me to promote him to Assistant Head Coach.” Toub interviewed for the Colts’ head-coaching job this past offseason but lost out to Josh McDaniels and later Frank Reich after McDaniels decided to stay with New England.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the Colts will interview Chiefs ST coach Dave Toub for their open head coaching job.
It is not a surprise. GM Chris Ballard, who spent four seasons in Kansas City, reportedly wanted to hire Toub last January before the Colts decided to stick with Chuck Pagano for another year. The Colts will also reportedly interview Patriots OC Josh McDaniels and Chiefs OC Matt Nagy.
