Darling

Travis Taylor’s injury leads to a promotion for Darling. The rookie looked solid in the preseason, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see him starting before long. Fantasy leaguers should remain cautious because he’s a Raven.

The third-round pick has struggled to find playing time this season.

The battle between Darling, Ron Johnson, and Randy Hymes should last throughout training camp.

Darling was drafted by the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL, but he didn’t even know his name was in the draft. He subsequently released a statement saying his torn ACL is completely rehabbed and he won’t be playing in the UFL. He’d be a long shot to make an NFL roster even if he gets a tryout. The 2004 third-round pick of the Ravens has 37 career catches.

Don’t get too excited. Mark Clayton and Clarence Moore are hurt, while rookie Demetrius Williams is still at college. Darling was a third-round pick in 2004, but has only two catches in his disappointing career thus far.

Darling piled up five catches for 115 yards in the second half with Kyle Boller behind center. The third-year wideout is making a strong case for landing the No. 3 receiver duties.

It appears both players have an edge over rookie Demetrius Williams for now. Moore has been inconsistent as a pro, while Devard has been invisible.

This is quite a surprise. It lends credence to the rumors that Kordell Stewart and/or Deion Sanders could see time at wide receiver today.

If Darling is limited, Randy Hymes will take over as Baltimore’s No. 3 receiver by default.

The rookie says he’s ready to play, but the Ravens think his strained quadriceps may be a long-term injury. He could be Baltimore’s No. 3 receiver if healthy.
