Marcedes Lewis “appears to have the inside track” on a starting job in Jacksonville, according to the Florida Times-Union.
Head coach Jack Del Rio says Lewis has “has started over the last three days to separate himself” and that “after Marcedes, it’s a battle.” Still, along with training camp star Greg Estandia, incumbent George Wrighster, and veteran Jermaine Wiggins, the four could end up canceling each other out.

George Wrighster will start and share tight end snaps with Greg Estandia if Lewis can’t face the Titans. Lewis’ status currently appears up in the air.

Marcedes Lewis caught one pass for eight yards in Week 10 against the Titans.
Lewis had been limited in practice throughout the week, which may explain his minor role in the offense this week. George Wrighster picked up some snaps at Lewis expense and combined with Greg Estandia for four receptions and 22 yards.

Jaguars placed TEs George Wrighster (torn ACL) and Greg Estandia (shoulder surgery) on injured reserve, ending their seasons.
Both were hurt in the team’s Week 12 game. Wrighster lost his starting job to Marcedes Lewis in 2007, but is versatile and relatively cheap, so he’ll likely be back next year. Estandia will have to battle for a roster spot.

Jaguars TE George Wrighster sprained his knee on Sunday.
More tests will be done on Wrighster, and coach Jack Del Rio said doctors were concerned about a ruptured ligament. Fellow tight end Greg Estandia also injured his shoulder. Both men backup Mercedes Lewis.
