The Cowboys are counting on former second-round bust Junior Siavii to serve as Jay Ratliff’s backup at nose tackle.

Siavii has the size (6'5/320 pounds) but has never lived up to expectations. There was no room for him on the roster last year with Tank Johnson around, but he’ll be expected to rotate in at nose tackle this season.

The Cowboys kept only two quarterbacks, but they could show interest in Chris Simms. They kept eleven offensive linemen and eleven defensive linemen, which could mean a trade is coming.

Per Matt Mosley of ESPN.com, a Cowboys’ team source would be “shocked” if NT Jay Ratliff (questionable, knee) didn’t play on Sunday.

Coach Wade Phillips didn’t sound so sure, “We think it’s something that will get better. How quickly is the question.” Junior Siavii will start and will split time with Marcus Spears if Ratliff can’t go. Jason Hatcher would replace him in nickel and dime packages. Ratliff’s status is still up in the air.
