Lions RT Penei Sewell (ankle) did not practice on Thursday.
The injury occurred when a Lions offensive lineman delivered a hit to Rams S Kamren Curl, who was attempting to clog a rushing lane. Curl impacted Sewell’s lower leg laterally, causing Sewell to briefly writhe in pain after the play. Sewell toughed it out, never leaving the field. While Friday’s injury report will be helpful, the team could opt to rest him throughout the week as a precaution, before allowing the two-time defending Pro Bowler to suit up on Sunday.
  • LAR Safety #31
Rams signed S Kamren Curl, formerly of the Commanders, to a two-year contract.
The deal is worth “up to” $13 million. A 2020 seventh-rounder still only 25 later this month, Curl was an every-down player for the majority of his rookie contract. He has quietly developed into one of the league’s better safeties, and he could still have room to grow in a Rams defense led by Aaron Donald that is always intelligently coached.
  • LAR Safety #3
Commanders declared S Kamren Curl, QB Sam Howell, RB Antonio Gibson, OG Chris Paul, OT Saahdiq Charles, CB Benjamin St-Juste, and DE James Smith-Williams inactive for Week 17 against the Browns.
Curl has now missed two-straight games for the Commanders after popping up on the team’s injury report ahead of Week 16’s matchup against the 49ers. This leaves a glaring hole in Washington’s secondary that will be fighting for its playoff lives in Week 17 against the Browns.

  • LAR Safety #3
Commanders declared S Kamren Curl, QB Sam Howell, OG Chris Paul, OT Saahdiq Charles and DT Daniel Wise inactive for Week 16 against the 49ers.
In the midst of a big season, Curl is a big loss for the Commanders’ Christmas Eve road trip. Questionable today, he should have a good shot at returning on eight days rest for Week 17.

  • LAR Safety #3
Washington S Kamren Curl (ankle) is questionable for Week 16’s game against the 49ers.
Curl popped up on the report with an ankle injury earlier this week and did not practice Thursday. We’d be a little surprised if he played based on how things are trending. Curl’s been excellent this season, notching an 80.3 PFF coverage grade. If he misses the game, the 49ers could exploit Washington safeties in coverage.

  • LAR Safety #3
Washington FS Kamren Curl (thumb) is out for Week 1 against the Jaguars.
Curl didn’t practice all week and wasn’t particularly close to playing; it’s believed he may need surgery on his thumb. This is a small boost for the Jaguars passing game as the Commanders dip into their reserves, with Darrick Forest likely to play most of the snaps.

  • LAR Safety #3
Washington FS Kamren Curl (thumb) may need to undergo surgery.
Curl had a sling on his right arm while watching practice this week. The third-year safety missed Washington’s preseason finale and has been sidelined the last nine days. Curl would be a candidate for short-term IR if he needs surgery.

  • PIT Quarterback #4
Washington QB Kyle Allen was removed from the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Washington S Kam Curl, LB Milo Eifler, and CB Kendall Fuller were also removed from the COVID-19 list following last week’s team-wide viral outbreak that left the Football Team shorthanded in their Week 15 loss to the Eagles. Allen will return to his role as Taylor Heinicke’s backup this week against Dallas.

  • LAR Safety #3
Redskins selected Arkansas S Kamren Curls with the No. 216 overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Curl (6’1/206) was a three-year starting safety at Arkansas who has experience as a slot corner and free safety. He was very productive in college -- 76 tackles and four turnovers as a junior in 2019 -- and beams with confidence on tape, as evidenced by his single-game suspension for flirting with opposing cheerleaders during pre-game warmups — something we view as a positive to his overall profile. His coverage skills are limited by his athleticism, however, as he tested in the 44th-percentile at the NFL Combine with 4.60 40-speed and a 34.5-inch vertical. Curl profiles as a backup safety or nickel corner in subpackages who will have to earn his stripes on special teams to notch an active roster spot with Washington.
