Bills WLB Keith Ellison (ankle) returned to the starting lineup Monday night.

Teams will be running on Buffalo all season, so Ellison is an attractive IDP. He’s also a good cover linebacker and will be in position to rack up stops.

Bills LB Keith Ellison considers his high ankle sprain a 3-5 week injury.

Get used to a lot of Coy Wire, Bills fans. Buffalo’s defense is likely to suffer against both the pass and run while its starting weak-side ‘backer is out.

Despite returning to practice this week, Bills weak side linebacker Keith Ellison (ankle) is not expected to start in Monday night’s contest.

It looks like Mario Haggan or Leon Joe will get the nod on the weak side, with Angelo Crowell staying at SAM. Ellison should be back at full strength soon.

Rookie Paul Posluszny is now seeing the majority of first-team reps at middle linebacker for the Bills.

He appears to be leading the battle, ahead of John DiGiorgio. Posz should be a 100+ tackle man if he claims the starting gig before the season, but probably won’t play on passing downs over Angelo Crowell or Keith Ellison.

Bills declared LB Keith Ellison, RB Fred Jackson, S Coy Wire, S John Wendling, OL Duke Preston, WR Josh Reed, DE Ryan Denney, and DE Copeland Bryan inactive for Week 2.

The Bills hope to get Ellison or Wire back soon; John DiGiorgio will start on the strong side Sunday and Angelo Crowell will kick to the weak.

Bills WLB Keith Ellison is out indefinitely with a high ankle sprain.

Undersized former safety Coy Wire is Ellison’s backup. A defense that didn’t improve much on paper this offseason will suffer without Ellison, who had an excellent training camp and is an emerging solid starter.
