49ers waived QB Jarrett Brown, DT Will Tukuafu, WR Kevin Jurovich, LB Keaton Kristick, S Chris Maragos, and WR Bobby Guillory.
Alex Boone appears to have made the 53. Brown, undrafted out of West Virginia, looked good at the Senior Bowl, but never put a hint of pressure on Nate Davis for the No. 3 QB job. (Davis, by the way, was kept on the team).
  • FA Running Back #33
49ers signed RB Xavier Omon, WRs Lance Long and Kevin Jurovich, K Fabrizio Scaccia, and OL Nick Howell to reserve/future contracts.
Omon, a sixth-round pick of the Bills in 2008, has shown a plodding style in preseason opportunities and managed just 27 yards on 11 career carries. Long was a onetime fantasy sleeper in Kansas City. He can play the slot, but it was a bad sign when a receiver-needy Todd Haley gave up on him in 2009.
  • SF Wide Receiver
    49ers signed WR Kevin Jurovich.
Jurovich was a standout at San Jose State, but he couldn’t make the Eagles roster. The undersized wideout also saw time at safety in college, though his versatility won’t be enough to land him on the 49ers’ final roster.
  • SF Wide Receiver
    49ers waived WR Kevin Jurovich.
The local product grabbed some headlines during player-organized workouts as he stood out to Alex Smith. But he never climbed depth chart in real training camp and is a practice squad candidate for the second straight year.
  • FA Quarterback #11
According to receiver Kevin Jurovich, participants in 49ers’ player-organized workouts have already learned 75 percent of the formations in the team’s new playbook.
CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco believes the team won’t have to spend “a lot of time on the absolute basics of the offense” in training camp. The workouts were run by free agent Alex Smith, whose most positive contribution this year may end up being what he did before the lockout ended.
  • SF Wide Receiver
The Sacramento Bee’s Matt Barrows reports WR Kevin Jurovich has been Alex Smith’s “most constant target” at player-organized workouts.
A former star at San Jose State University, Jurovich appeared in zero games as an undrafted free agent last season. Shining at sparsely attended player workouts is one thing, but doing it at training camp is another. He’s unlikely to crack the Niners’ 53-man roster.
