Bills second-year RB Xavier Omon has dropped 11 pounds since the end of last season.
Omon showed nothing as a rookie, but the Buffalo News says he was “noticeably quicker in hitting the hole” in Sunday’s Hall of Fame game. We watched the game and there was nothing impressive about Omon’s explosion. He must’ve really lacked a quick first step before. He’s on the roster bubble.

With Dominic Rhodes’ release, Xavier Omon will likely be the Bills’ No. 2 RB for the first three weeks of the season.
Omon must have made a big enough impression on the Bills’ staff to allow them to feel comfortable cutting Rhodes. Marshawn Lynch is suspended for the first three weeks, leaving Fred Jackson as the starter.
  • PIT Running Back
Dwayne Wright is in little danger of losing his roster spot to rookie Xavier Omon, according to Bills.com writer Chris Brown.
Brown believes Omon needs an “unbelievable” training camp to push Wright down the depth chart or off the roster. They are similar players (big, slow), but Wright is a more polished receiver and Omon is coming from D-II.
  • FA Running Back #33
Rookie Xavier Omon rushed for sixteen yards on five carries and a fumble in the Bills’ first preseason game Saturday.
Dwayne Wright had a similar outing with 20 yards on six carries and a fumble. Omon is trying to overtake Wright as the third stringer, but he may be headed to the practice squad instead.
  • FA Running Back #33
Rookie Xavier Omon is not expected to be on Buffalo’s Week 1 roster.
They’ll try to get him on the practice squad. Omon faced a big jump out of D-II Northwest Missouri State and has been outplayed by Dwayne Wright.
  • BUF Running Back #22
Fred Jackson is sharing first-team repititions with Marshawn Lynch at Bills training camp.
Jackson is locked in as Buffalo’s No. 2 back, with Dwayne Wright third for now and Xavier Omon fourth. Jackson getting starter reps doesn’t mean he’s competing with Lynch, but he’ll be used frequently as a backfield outlet.
  • FA Running Back #33
Bills signed sixth-round RB Xavier Omon to an undisclosed contract.
He was ridiculously productive at DII NW Missouri State. The bruiser has an uphill climb, though, to make the team if the Bills only keep three tailbacks. It’s possible Omon could go on the practice squad.
  • PIT Running Back
Dwayne Wright is in danger of the not making the Bills after fumbling three times in four preseason games.
Buffalo News gives the final roster spot to rookie Xavier Omon while the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle believes Wright will keep the job with Omon going to the practice squad.
  • PIT Running Back
    Bills released RB Dwayne Wright.
The team’s website thought Wright was safe a month ago, but the burly fourth-round pick from 2007 fumbled three times in the preseason. He has generally been unimpressive as a pro. Fred Jackson is entrenched as Marshawn Lynch’s backup. Xavier Omon made the team as a third running back.

Seahawks signed RB Xavier Omon to their practice squad.
Omon, the Bills’ sixth-round pick in 2007, will be Seattle’s No. 3 tailback until Julius Jones (ribs, lung) returns to the lineup. Omon’s addition may be an admission from the Seahawks that Jones will miss multiple games.
