Jets declared WR Tyler Johnson, RB Khalil Herbert, DL Mazi Smith, TE Jelani Woods, and DL Tyler Baron inactive for Week 12 against the Ravens.
The decision to scratch Johnson comes as a bit of a surprise. Johnson has played in all nine games this season for the Jets, but a humble 10-187-1 line on 16 targets is more than replacement-level play. Veteran Allen Lazard will be active for the first time since Week 8.
  • NYJ Wide Receiver #15
Jets WR AD Mitchell is active for Week 11 against the Patriots.
It’s an intriguing situation. The crafty route runner and problematically error-prone player has a chance to carve out a starting role on his new team. Jets No. 1 WR Garrett Wilson (knee) was placed on injured reserve earlier today. For those needing a wide receiver stash candidate, Mitchell fits the bill, though expectations must be tempered. The Jets declared CB Azareye’h Thomas, RB Khalil Herbert, LB Ja’Markis Weston, EDGE Braiden McGregor and TE Jelani Woods inactive for Week 11 against the Patriots.
  • NYJ Running Back #22
Jets signed RB Khalil Herbert, formerly of the Seahawks.
Herbert signed with the Colts in the offseason but didn’t make their 53-man roster. He briefly joined the Seahawks’ practice squad before the Jets offered him a spot on their active roster. With Braelon Allen on injured reserve, Herbert will operate as the team’s RB3 going forward.
  • SEA Running Back #26
Seahawks signed RB Khalil Herbert to the practice squad.
Herbert worked out for the Commanders after being released by the Colts at roster cuts this offseason, now catching on with the Seahawks. Whether his signing is correlated to the injury to Zach Charbonnet remains to be seen.
  • FA Running Back #25
KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson reports the Commanders are working out free agent RB Demetric Felton.
Felton spent all of training camp with the Commanders and can provide the pass-catching threat the Commanders lost after Austin Ekeler’s Achilles injury. Even if Felton lands in Washington, it seems unlikely the team would move to activate him on game day early on. Veteran Jeremy McNichols will likely get the first crack at a third-down role and has 49 career receptions to his name. Felton hasn’t played an offensive snap since 2022. In addition to Felton, the Commanders also worked out RBs Khalil Herbert and Nyheim Hines, and DBs Tre Brown, Alex Johnson, and Trayvon Mullen.
  • FA Cornerback #29
    Colts waived CB JuJu Brents.
Brents suffered a knee injury in Week 1 last year that kept him sidelined until Week 18. Brents flashed intriguing traits as a rookie, but the Colts are evidently ready to move on from their 2023 second-round pick. Through two seasons, Brents tallied 36 tackles, five pass breakups and one interception. The Colts released RB Khalil Herbert, CB Chris Lammons, TE Sean McKeon, CB Duke Shelley, WR Laquon Treadwell and DT Josh Tupou. They also waived LB Austin Ajiake, WR Ajou Ajou, QB Jason Bean, RB Ulysses Bentley IV, LB Jake Chaney, DT Devonta Davis, LB Solomon DeShields, T Marshall Foerner, C Wesley French, DE Marcus Haynes, CB Alex Johnson, T Marcellus Johnson, WR Tyler Kahmann, DE Isaiah Land, DE Desmond Little, TE Maximilian Mang, CB B.J. Mayes, DE Durrell Nchami, RB Nate Notel, WR Coleman Owen, WR Landon Parker, G Josh Sills, WR Blayne Taylor, S Ladarius Tennison, LB Joseph Vaughn, C Mose Vavao, S Trey Washington, CB Sam Womack III, TE Jelani Woods, RB Nay’Quan Wright and K Maddux Trujillo.
  • IND Running Back #26
Colts RB Khalil Herbert (undisclosed) missed practice on Sunday.
This is Herbert’s second missed practice. The Indy Star’s Nate Atkins commented on the matter, saying this is a “setback” for Herbert “in the RB3 battle.” Herbert is not worth stashing on fantasy benches at this time.
  • IND Running Back #34
Colts agreed to terms with RB Khalil Herbert, formerly of the Bengals, on a one-year contract.
Herbert was traded to the Bengals at the deadline after falling out of favor in Chicago. He fumbled his first touch as a Bengal and his new coaching staff instantly threw in the towel. Herbert didn’t see the ball much until a meaningless Week 18 affair in which he turned 27 touches into 83 scoreless yards. With two franchises showing little interest in using Herbert over the past year, Herbert isn’t a lock for a roster spot in Indy. He will look to carve out a role as Jonathan Taylor’s backup during the offseason program.
  • CIN Running Back #34
Khalil Herbert rushed 20 times for 69 yards in the Bengals’ Week 18 win over the Steelers while adding seven catches for 14 yards.
With Chase Brown unable to play, Herbert not only was the lead back for the Bengals, he was the only back. No other Cincinnati player received a carry. He finishes the season with all of 114 yards on 28 carries as he was well behind Brown and Zack Moss on the depth chart. Herbert will be a free agent at the end of the year and well off the fantasy radar for 2025.
  • CIN Running Back #30
Chase Brown will workout pre-game and attempt to play against the Steelers in Week 18, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Rapoport had previously reported that Brown “must improve greatly” to play this week. However, the 24-year-old running back participated in walkthrough Friday, which could be a good sign for his availability against the Steelers. Brown is still listed as questionable and will be a game-time decision. Even if he’s active, there’s the potential Brown won’t be able to make it through the game without re-injury, but he’s certainly going to try. Khalil Herbert would be the main beneficiary from Brown either being inactive or limited in Week 18.
