Douzable

Undrafted out of UCF in 2008, Douzable’s stout length at 6-foot-4 and 284 pounds has gotten him looks from the Vikings, Giants, Rams, Lions, and Jags. According to Pro Football Focus, Douzable was a highly effective run-stopper while picking up significant snaps down the stretch last year in Jacksonville.

Douzable had been dividing his time between end and tackle before coming down with a shoulder injury. An effective rotational run-stopper, Douzable had signed a one-year, $700,000 contract in April.

At 6-foot-4, 284, Douzable can play defensive tackle and end. He’ll be squarely on the roster bubble with the Jets, but at least offers some versatility.

A journeyman reserve, Douzable played for coach Rex Ryan in New York from 2013-14. He played 297 snaps last season, grading out negatively in Pro Football Focus’ ratings. The run stopper is a depth signing who will have to earn his spot on the 53-man roster in camp.

Douzable played for Rex Ryan when he was on the Jets in 2013. He’d be a five-technique defensive end in Ryan’s scheme. The 30-year-old logged 14 tackles in 297 snaps for the Jets last season.

Douzable, 29 in May, appeared in all 16 games for the Jets last season, logging 322 snaps and playing above-average run defense as an interior lineman.

Douzable missed all of 2012 with a shoulder injury, but returned to appear in all 16 games for the Jets last season as a reserve defensive tackle. Douzable played 242 snaps, logging 20 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He’s primarily a run stopper.

The Giants needed the roster space to pick up RB Gartrell Johnson. Douzable will return to the practice squad if he clears waivers.

The Rams released LB K.C. Asiodu to make room.

The 305-pound former Giant knows Steve Spagnuolo’s system, but won’t make much of an impact. Douzable was not taken in the 2008 NFL Draft.
