Miami (OH) redshirt senior WR Mac Hippenhammer catches eight passes for 170 yards in a 28-17 win over Central Michigan on Saturday.
The former Penn State transfer Hippenhammer (5'11/186) had his best outing as a college player today. Before today, he had never tallied more than 64 yards in a game and nearly tripled that today. As he continues to get comfortable with the offense, Hippenhammer looks to grow and become a bigger weapon for the Redhawks. Miami (OH) takes on Eastern Michigan on Saturday.

Former Penn State redshirt junior WR Mac Hippenhammer transferred to Miami (OH).
A former three-star recruit, Hippenhammer appeared to be looking more and more toward baseball as his career with the Nittany Lions unfolded (he did not take part in spring practice either of the past two years), but at least outwardly, it would appear that the 5-foot-11, 177-pound wideout is not quite done with the gridiron. His post announcing his transfer to the Redhawks included a picture of the redshirt junior in football garb. This past season, Hippenhammer caught just one pass. He did slightly more in 2018, posting a 6-103-1 receiving line for that campaign. Count him as a depth add for Miami (OH).

Rivals reports that Penn State redshirt junior WR Mac Hippenhammer entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Hippenhammer (5'11/177) is also no longer listed on Penn State’s football roster. It’s possible we never see him on a football field again, as he has increasingly been drawn toward the baseball diamond. The former three-star recruit played on the baseball team last spring, foregoing Nittany Lions spring practices on the gridiron. He was doing likewise again this spring before the coronavirus pandemic halted team activities. Hippenhammer caught just one pass in 2019 after posting a 6-103-1 receiving line in 2018. Count this transfer as a thinning of depth for PSU.

247Sports’ Jordan James believes that Penn State redshirt sophomore WR Mac Hippenhammer could “emerge” as a consistent target in the fall.
James sees wide receiver as Penn State’s biggest question mark position, as there just aren’t many proven options beyond the ever-electric KJ Hamler. Hippenhammer (5'11/177) enrolled with the Nittany Lions as a three-star recruit in the 2017 class. After taking a redshirt his first year on campus, he went on to catch six passes for 103 yards and a touchdown. A strong August camp would go a ways toward establishing Hippenhammer as a real receiving option for HC James Franklin and staff.
