Jets signed LB/S Marcell Harris, formerly of the 49ers.
The No. 184 overall pick of the 2018 draft, Harris spent his entire rookie contract in San Francisco, a rarity for a sixth-round pick. He will be reuniting with ex-Niners DC Robert Saleh in Florham Park, though Harris saw the most playing time of his career following Saleh’s departure in 2021. The soon-to-be 28-year-old made seven starts, playing 335 snaps on defense. Capable of playing both linebacker and safety, Harris figures to slot in as a core special teamer who could see some time on defense.

    49ers re-signed S Marcell Harris to a one-year contract.
He was slated to be a restricted free agent. Harris has appeared in 29 games over the last two seasons and has consistently played about a third of the defensive snaps while being a mainstay on special teams.

  • Linebacker
49ers selected Florida S Marcell Harris with the No. 184 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft.
Harris (6’1/216) missed all of 2017 with a torn Achilles’ after shining as a 2016 starter for the Gators, leading Florida in tackles that season and catching two interceptions. He was also used extensively on special teams. A plus-sized safety the Gators’ coaching staff hoped would become another version of Marcus Maye, Harris’ resume is extremely limited with just nine career college starts. Harris figures to begin his career covering kicks and punts. He offers theoretical upside to eventually challenge for snaps at strong safety.
