Texans DT Mario Edwards (pectoral) will miss the remainder of the season.
Edwards has appeared in 14 games for the Texans this season, tallying 13 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two TFLs in a supporting role. Naquan Jones, who the Texans recently claimed off waivers, took over in Edwards’ absence on Sunday and will presumably be tasked with filling his role for the remainder of the season. Edwards signed a two-year deal with the Texans this offseason and should be back in time for the 2026 season.
  • HOU Defensive Tackle #97
Texans’ DL Mario Edwards (chest) left Houston’s Week 15 game against the Cardinals and is questionable to return.
Edwards left late in the fourth quarter. Recent waiver claim Naquan Jones is picking up more snaps on Houston’s early downs.
  • HOU Defensive Tackle #97
Texans re-signed DL Mario Edwards to a two-year, $9.5 million contract.
The ten-year veteran will return to Houston for a second and third season following a 2024 season in which he started 13 games for Houston. Edwards has 52 tackles over the past two seasons and will rejoin a Houston defensive line graded by Pro Football Focus as the league’s 10th-best pass rush.
  • HOU Defensive Tackle #97
Texans DL Mario Edwards was reinstated from his four-game suspension.
Edwards was suspended for violating the league’s substance abuse policy but can now rejoin the team ahead of Week 11’s game against the Cowboys. Edwards has totaled 18 tackles and two sacks in the six games he’s appeared in this season. He should resume his role as a starter along the interior now that he’s back.
  • HOU Defensive Tackle #97
NFL suspended Texans DL Mario Edwards Jr. four games for violating the NFL’s Substance Abuse Policy.
The Texans just got Denico Autry back from suspension and Edwards will now take a seat, probably replacing him on the exempt list for the Texans. Edwards had two sacks and eight solo tackles while playing 59 percent of Houston’s defensive snaps in six games.
  • HOU Defensive End #97
Texans signed EDGE Mario Edwards, formerly of the Seahawks, to a one-year contract.
Edwards, 30, a former second round draft pick by the Raiders, is a good fit for Houston’s 4-3 defense. Last year in Seattle, Edwards had 21 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He has 156 career tackles, 21.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and six pass deflections over his nine NFL seasons.
  • HOU Defensive Tackle #97
Seahawks signed EDGE Mario Edwards, formerly of the Titans.
Edwards visited with the Seahawks in March and finally signs post-draft. He started seven games for the Titans last year, picking up three sacks and a career-high 11 quarterback hits. Edwards will be a depth piece on the defensive line and likely will be limited to situational pass-rushing duties.

  • HOU Defensive Tackle #97
Seahawks hosted EDGE Mario Edwards for a visit.
Edwards was cut by the Bears just one season into a three-year deal at the end of training camp last year. He was then scooped up by the Bears a few weeks after the season started. Edwards appeared in 13 games for Chicago, seven of which were counted as starts. He totaled three sacks and four TFLs. If he lands in Seattle, it will likely be as a backup.

  • HOU Defensive Tackle #97
Titans signed EDGE Mario Edwards, formerly of the Bears.
Edwards was cut by the Bears at the end of training camp after signing a three-year, $11.55 million contract in March 2021. Edwards was signed to the Jaguars practice squad after being released but is now heading to the Titans’ active roster. Since entering the league as a second-round pick in 2015, Edwards has managed 16.5 sacks while playing for six different teams. He’s nothing more than a depth signing for the Titans at this point.

  • HOU Defensive Tackle #97
    Bears released EDGE Mario Edwards.
Edwards was one season into a “three-year” deal. Heading into his age-28 season, Edwards managed only two sacks in 12 games/212 snaps in 2021.
