Panthers acquired CB Michael Jackson from the Seahawks in exchange for LB Michael Barrett.
Jackson has appeared in 34 games for the Seahawks over the last two seasons while making 21 starts. The fifth-year corner earned a PFF coverage grade of 76.9 while playing on 474 defensive snaps last season and provides nice depth for a Panthers secondary that is in need of help. In return, the Seahawks get rookie linebacker Michael Barrett, who the Panthers selected in the seventh round of this year’s draft. Barrett has totaled two tackles this preseason and will likely contribute on special teams to start.

Panthers selected Michigan LB Michael Barrett with the No. 240 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Barrett (5’11/233) is a two-time graduate student who enrolled in 2018 and was voted a team captain for the 2023 season. The MLB prospect out of Valdosta, Georgia started all 15 games in 2023, posting 65 total tackles, including 3.5 TFL and 3.0 sacks. Barrett’s 35 defensive stops corroborate his 84.3 PFF run-defense grade, though the two-time all BIG 10 selection may struggle with this in the NFL due to his lack of strength at the point of attack. Where the six-year Wolverine may excel at the next level is on blitzes and in pass defense. Out of his 19 pass rush attempts in 2023, he hurried the QB on 16 of them for a pristine 92.3 PFF rush grade. In coverage, the Lowndes HS product plays with his head on a swivel, recording five PBU throughout his two starting campaigns.
