Thorpe ended last season on IR after sports hernia surgery. He’ll return as a core special teamer and deep reserve. Thorpe has been with Seattle since 2016.

Thorpe had missed the last two games. The special teams captain is done for the season after undergoing sports hernia surgery this week. Seattle figures to use Thorpe’s roster spot to activate OL Ethan Pocic from IR.

Thorpe was tendered as a restricted free agent at the $2.553 million level earlier this offseason, but he took a pay cut in August down to the minimum. It wasn’t enough to save his job after playing 464 snaps last year.

Thorpe appeared in nine games for the Chiefs in 2012. He’ll compete for a special-teams spot on Oakland’s thin roster. Neither Beltre nor Shaw has ever appeared in an NFL game.

Thorpe is now due just a $675K base salary. It’s a big drop from his $2.5 million RFA tender, but should help Thorpe’s chances of making the final 53.

An exclusive rights free agent, Thorpe appeared in 14 games last season, playing 59 snaps on defense. His defense of his 53-man roster spot will center on special teams.

The tender is worth $2.553 million. Thorpe logged 464 snaps and started two games last season. The second-round tender suggests the Raiders expect Thorpe to compete for a role in the secondary this offseason. Oakland also extended the low tender to DE Benson Mayowa and OL Matt McCants.

Thorpe was a restricted free agent tendered at the second-round level. Thorpe made only two starts last season, but played 464 snaps. He was not effective, however. Thorpe turned 26 in February. Ideally, he’d be the Raiders’ No. 4 cornerback.

Thorpe served as a special teams co-captain for Seattle last season. He logged 29 snaps in coverage in 2018 but won’t be used in that role unless injuries force him into the Hawks’ lineup.

Thorpe had to be carted to the locker room after suffering the injury on a punt, but coach Pete Carroll said he is just dealing with a sprain after the game. He is week to week.
