Cardinals signed DL Keilen Dykes, DL Jason Banks, C Pat Ross, C Anthony Oakley, WR Lance Long, CB Michael Adams, CB Wilrey Fontenot, WR Onrea Jones and LB Eduardo Castaneda to the practice squad.
Arizona is so frought with injuries that they didn’t have much of a choice here, like the decision to sign two centers with Al Johnson hurting. Jones was cut by the Colts last weekend.
  • LAC Linebacker
Cardinals signed ILBs Ali Highsmith and Mark Washington, WRs Onrea Jones and Ed Gant, CB Rashad Barksdale, DE Ryan Kees, OL Jonathan Palmer, and OT Tom Pestock to reserve/future contracts.
Highsmith spent time on the active roster in 2008 and 2009, seeing action as a special teamer. The Cards are currently very thin at inside ‘backer, so the former LSU Tiger figures to be directly in the mix for a job in 2010.
  • CHI Wide Receiver
Cardinals signed WRs Onrea Jones and Lance Long, DT Keilen Dykes, CB Wilrey Fontenot, S Dennis Keyes, C Ben Claxton, FB Justin Green, and P Waylon Prather to reserve/future contracts.
From this group only Dykes has a realistic chance to make the 2009 roster as a 3-4 defensive end. The rest will just be practice bodies for the summer.
  • FA Defensive Back
Cardinals waived CB Justin Miller, CB Trevor Ford, WR Mike Jones, WR Onrea Jones, and WR Isaiah Williams.
A former second-round pick, Miller’s career has bottomed out as an annual September cut. The three receivers here were all big roster long shots.
  • CHI Wide Receiver
    Cardinals released WR Onrea Jones.
Jones did little to impress during his tenure with Arizona, but could resurface again if the team needs wide receiver help. He was cut to make room for O’Brien Schofield.
  • CHI Defensive Lineman
Bears signed DT Tank Tyler and WR Onrea Jones to reserve/future contracts.
They’re bodies for the offseason. Tyler is worth a flier because he has talent, but he was a huge bust in Panthers camp last year, failing to make the roster for a team dangerously thin on run stoppers after working as a starter in OTAs. A former third-round pick, Tyler has been an enigmatic prospect.
  • CHI Wide Receiver
In addition to Michael Clayton and Keenan Burton, the Bears also worked out wide receivers Onrea Jones, Rashaun Greer, and Juamorris Stewart.
The odd mix of names suggests the Bears are simply performing due diligence for their call list.
  • CHI Wide Receiver
    Cardinals re-signed WR Onrea Jones.
With Early Doucet out until Arizona’s bye week, Jones will slot in as the No. 5 receiver behind Larry Fitzgerald, Steve Breaston, Stephen Williams, and Andre Roberts. Jones lost out to Max Komar in Cardinals training camp.
  • CHI Wide Receiver
Coach Ken Whisenhunt indicated that Onrea Jones has taken the early lead for the Cardinals’ fourth receiver spot.
Jones will likely get passed by third-rounder Andre Roberts by the end of training camp, but he at least has a shot to make the roster this year. The former Hampton University star spent last season on the practice squad.
  • FA Wide Receiver
Coach Ken Whisenhunt indicated that it’s too early to call the Cardinals’ race for the No. 4 receiver.
Third-rounder Andre Roberts, the heavy favorite, has bounced back the past two days after a miserable practice on Monday. Holdover Onrea Jones is also in the mix, and 6'5" undrafted rookie Stephen Williams has shown flashes.
