Chargers placed DL Otito Ogbonnia (elbow) on injured reserve.
He’ll miss at least the next four weeks with an injury suffered against the Colts in Week 4. The 2022 fifth-rounder has largely been a below-average run defender per PFF, and had played just 66 snaps this year.
  • LAC Tackle #74
Chargers OT Austin Deculus is questionable to return in Week 7 against the Colts after suffering an ankle injury.
Deculus got rolled up by a diving Colts pass rusher on the Chargers’ first drive, causing concern for a high-ankle sprain. He was ruled questionable to return shortly after being taken off the field for medical examination. No official word on the severity has been given. Deculus’ injury is bad news for Justin Herbert’s pass protection. Deculus got the start in place of LT Joe Alt, who is dealing with an ankle injury of his own. Chargers DL Otito Ogbonnia is also questionable to return in Week 7 against the Colts after suffering an elbow injury on the Colts’ fourth offensive play. Ogbonnia was attempting to tackle Colts RB Jonathan Taylor when teammate LB Denzel Perryman lowered his shoulder to assist in the effort. Unfortunately, Ogbonnia’s upper arm was pressed against Taylor’s upper body and Perryma’s shoulder slammed into Ogbonnia’s elbow and forearm, seemingly stressing the elbow joint from the outside. Ogbonnia remained down after the play before being escorted off the field by Chargers trainers.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #15
Chargers designated WR Jalen Guyton (knee) to return from injured reserve.
Guyton opened the season on the physically unable to perform list as he continued to rehab from a torn ACL from last season. Serving primarily as a field stretcher who is seldom targeted, Guyton won’t have much fantasy upside whenever he returns. His 21-day window has been officially opened, giving the Chargers three weeks to activate him or rule him out for the season. They also opened the 21-day window for defensive tackle Otito Ogbonnia.
  • LAC Defensive Lineman #93
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Chargers DT Otito Ogbonnia is expected to miss the rest of the season with a quad injury.
Ogbonnia was drafted in the fifth round of this year’s draft and appeared in seven games for the Chargers. Yesterday’s loss to the 49ers marked Ogbonnia’s first-career start, but he appeared on just 10 defensive snaps before being carted from the field. Ogbonnia totaled 14 tackles and one TFL this season.

  • LAC Wide Receiver #13
Chargers declared Keenan Allen (hamstring) inactive for Week 4 against the Texans.
Allen was ruled out on Friday after appearing to re-injure his hamstring in practice. C Corey Linsley (knee) is active after missing practice on Friday. Also inactive for the Chargers are TE Donald Parham (hamstring), DL Otito Ogbonnia, QB Easton Stick, RB Isaiah Spiller, and S J.T. Woods

  • LAC Defensive Lineman #93
Chargers selected UCLA DT Otito Ogbonnia with the No. 160 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Finally a full-time starter in 2021, Ogbonnia (6’4/320) put together his most productive season. The senior totaled 27 tackles, five TFL, and two sacks while also applying 14 QB pressures. Ogbonnia doesn’t excel as a pass rusher but offers some upside in run defense. Even still, as we saw last season against USC, Ogbonnia struggles to consistently get push against opposing offensive linemen. He uses strong hands and punches to separate from blockers, but can also be moved off-balance with relative ease. His 4.79 relative athletic score is just above average, and he leaves a lot to be desired athletically. Ogbonnia will be best suited as an early-down run stopper.

UCLA sophomore DT Otito Ogbonnia won a gold medal in the shot put at Pan American U20 Championships in Costa Rica.
Ogbonnia (6'4/330) made Bruce Feldman’s “Freaks” list earlier this summer thanks to his performances both on the gridiron and the track, as he finished first in the shot put and third in the discus at last month’s U20 nationals. Now he has a U20 Pan American Games gold medal to add to the collection, as he recorded a winning throw of 20.72 meters (67 feet, 11.5 inches).
  • LAC Defensive Lineman #93
UCLA sophomore DT Otito Ogbonnia is ranked 36th on Bruce Feldman’s “Freaks” list for the 2019 season.
Ogbonnia (6'4/330) appeared in all 12 games for the Bruins as a freshman, starting six, and he accounted for 21 total tackles. With the combination of size, strength and athleticism, UCLA’s two-sport sophomore has received some deserved attention from Feldman. “The massive Texan at 6-4 330 is the most explosive and talented of a gifted crop of young Bruin D-linemen,” Feldman wrote. A member of UCLA’s track team, Ogbonnia placed in both the shot put (first) and discus (third) at last month’s Under-20 national championships.
