The Patriots are probably crossing their fingers that he gets through waivers. The 22-year old has skills and size, but hasn’t stayed healthy as a pro.

They drafted him in the fifth round last season before releasing him last week. The Texans worked him out, but didn’t offer a contract.

Coach Bill Belichick said, P.K. Sam had a really good offseason. ''I think that he(Sam) accomplished a lot and put himself in a much more competitive position than he was in last year due to his work and his effort both on the field and in the classroom and in the weight room.’' Sam could challenge for the fourth or fifth Patriots receiving slot.

The former Florida State project will likely be released with an injury settlement later on. Sam, now 26, has made no impact in six seasons.
