The 49ers have taken a hard hit on their offensive line.

Joe Staley, San Francisco’s All-Pro left tackle, exited today’s game against the Rams with a knee injury in the first quarter. The 49ers quickly announced that Staley would not return to the game, which may turn out to be a bad sign about how severe the injury is.

Staley suffered the injury when he was hit low from the side while blocking. He stayed on the ground for several minutes.

The 49ers moved right tackle Alex Boone over to the left side to replace Staley, and backup Joe Looney came in to play right tackle.
