Tackle Tony Pashos gambled when he turned down a pay cut from the Jaguars, hoping that he could make more money elsewhere as a free agent. He lost that gamble, accepting a smaller deal from the 49ers.
The 49ers lost their gamble too Tuesday when they learned Pashos would miss the season with a broken scapula. Pashos was placed on injured reserve and will be replaced in the lineup by Adam Snyder, who Pashos usurped earlier in the season.
Last year’s second round pick Chilo Rachal will move back into the starting lineup at guard, a move that doesn’t bode well for Alex Smith’s pass protection.
The 49ers also announced they have released linebacker Marques Harris and promoted linebacker Diyral Briggs from the practice squad.
