Former NFL player Christopher Dyko was killed in 2014 when he was riding his bike and a car hit him. Now the 89-year-old driver of that car is facing up to 30 years in prison.

Domingo Javier Veloso was convicted in a jury trial of leaving the scene of a fatal crash. Prosecutors said Veloso’s SUV went into the bike lane and struck Dyko, and that Veloso drove off. He later returned to the scene and told police he thought he had hit a barricade.

Veloso will be sentenced on October 14. Guidelines call for him to get at least four years in prison.

Dyko was drafted by the Bears in 1989 and played briefly for the Bears and Giants, and later played in both the World League of American Football and Canadian Football League.
