The Colts brought center A.Q. Shipley back from Baltimore in a reverse of their previous trade with the Ravens so that they’d have some insurance in the event that Khaled Holmes wasn’t able to be in the lineup because of the ankle injury that sidelined him for much of camp.
They didn’t have to wait long to cash in that insurance policy. Michele Tafoya of NBC Sports reports that Shipley will start on Sunday night in place of Holmes, who is inactive.
Shipley started five games for the Colts as a rookie two years ago and made nine starts in Baltimore last year so he has experience as a starter if not much of it in the offense run by Pep Hamilton in Indianapolis.
The Colts are also missing versatile reserve lineman Joe Reitz, which means they’d be in fairly dire straits if another injury were to strike during the game against the Broncos.
