The Seahawks have added an offensive tackle.

Seattle spent its first-round draft pick, 25th overall, on James Carpenter, who played left tackle for the Crimson Tide but will likely be a right tackle for the Seahawks.

Carpenter wasn’t projected as a first-round choice, and even his own college coach, Nick Saban, was shown on NFL Network looking surprised to hear Carpenter’s name called.

However, Carpenter has been moving up draft boards for the last few months, since impressing scouts with an excellent Senior Bowl. Now he’s a first-round draft pick, which few observers thought he’d be.
