The Bears have added another contender for the passing game targets that don’t go to Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery, Martellus Bennett and Matt Forte.
The club said Monday it had signed Redskins wide receiver Josh Morgan to a one-year contract. The 28-year-old Morgan hauled in 20 passes for 214 yards in 14 games (seven starts) for Washington in 2013. He also returned 12 kickoffs for 239 yards and eight punts for 59 yards.
Morgan (6-1, 220) seems likely to vie with 2013 seventh-round pick Marquess Wilson and former Panthers wide receiver Domenik Hixon for playing time in the Bears’ receiving corps. Marshall and Jeffery, the Bears’ starting wideouts, are the top producers in the passing offense, with tight end Bennett and running back Forte also major parts of the attack.
A seventh-year pro from Virginia Tech, Morgan has caught 199 passes for 2,488 yards and 11 touchdowns in his NFL career. He played for the 49ers from 2008 through 2011, then joined Washington for the last two seasons.
