It looked for a moment like the Jets had ended their long interception drought, but a penalty flag extended it and a Bears drive that resulted in the first points of Sunday’s game in Chicago.
Running back Kyle Monangai punched the ball in from the 1-yard-line on fourth down and the Bears went up 7-0 with 23 seconds to play in the first quarter. The run was the Bears’ eighth play in a goal-to-go situation in the quarter as their first possession ended with D’Andre Swift being ruled down short of the end zone after reviews of two different runs.
The Jets took over inside their 1-yard-line and tried to draw the Bears offside before taking an intentional delay of game. They punted after going three-and-out and appeared to get their first interception since the end of the 2024 season when defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat nabbed a Tyson Bagent shovel pass, but an illegal use of hands penalty gave the ball back to the Bears.
Bagent lined up at wide receiver on the first play of game while Case Keenum took the snap and handed off, but is 8-of-10 for 93 yards since taking over as the quarterback.
