We have a new name in the mix for the defensive coordinator position in Tampa Bay: Bill Sheridan.
The Tampa Bay Times passed along a report from coachingsearch.com on Wednesday, saying that Sheridan was interviewing for the defensive coordinator job with the Buccaneers.
That report may raise eyebrows at Ohio State, where head coach Urban Meyer said just two weeks ago that Sheridan, whose title with the Buckeyes is defensive assistant, is a major part of his coaching staff.
“Bill Sheridan is a perfect fit for our program,” Meyer said. “His experiences in the NFL are huge. He has Midwest roots and, most importantly, he wants to be an Ohio State Buckeye.”
But Sheridan may only want to be an Ohio State Buckeye if there’s not a better job available to him in the NFL. Sheridan was the Giants’ defensive coordinator in 2009 and spent the last two years as the Dolphins’ linebackers coach.
