Ryan Fitzpatrick’s fourth down pass for Kellen Davis fell incomplete in the end zone as the Buffalo Bills held on for a 22-17 victory over the New York Jets in Rex Ryan’s return to MetLife Stadium.
The Jets had pulled within a score on Fitzpatrick’s 31-yard touchdown pass to Eric Decker midway through the fourth quarter.
The touchdown pass was the 128th of Fitzpatrick career, which moves him past Sid Luckman’s 127 for most touchdown passes by a quarterback from an Ivy League school.
The Bills were unable to gain a first down in four straight possessions and a fumbled punt snap by Colton Schmidt put the Jets in prime position to take the lead. But the Jets were unable to capitalize despite taking over possession at the Bills 13-yard line.
On 4th-and-4 from the Buffalo 7, Davis never saw the pass from Fitzpatrick as it fell harmlessly in the back of the end zone.
The Bills converted a pair of first downs on the ensuing possession to drain the clock and Fitzpatrick was intercepted by Bacarri Rambo on the Jets final possession to seal the victory.
Lesean McCoy had 112 yards on 19 carries for Buffalo and Karlos Williams scored a touchdown in his sixth straight game to tie an NFL record for touchdowns to begin a career.
