The first free agency period of Bob Quinn’s first year as the General Manager of the Lions is two weeks old and Quinn is giving himself a good review for the work he’s done thus far.
The Lions have signed six players from other teams and Quinn believes that the additions to the roster have had the desired effect on the overall quality of the team.
“I think it’s better all the way around,” Quinn said, via the Detroit News. “I really do. There’s certain positions that we need to do some more work and we’re working toward those, but I think the overall depth of the team is better.”
The Lions pursued a few free agents that they weren’t able to sign, like tackle Russell Okung, so there’s still work to be done heading into the 2016 season if they are going to realize better results. There’s also the retirement of wide receiver Calvin Johnson to deal with.
Quinn said it was “unrealistic” to expect newly signed wideouts Marvin Jones or Jeremy Kerley to replace Johnson’s production, but that the Lions have “a good core group of guys” who can keep the offense moving in Johnson’s absence. If that’s the case, Quinn probably won’t be the only one commenting on the improvements to the Lions in 2016.
