On Sunday, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that rocker Jon Bon Jovi could be purchasing 15 percent of the Atlanta Falcons, a transaction that could be worth up to $150 million.
Bon Jovi has since clarified his interest in becoming an NFL owner, via a statement provided to Mortensen from Bon Jovi spokesperson Tiffany Shipp.
“Since helping to establish the Philadelphia Soul Arena Football team -- from its inception through our 2008 championship season -- I have always made clear my desire to someday enter the NFL,” Bon Jovi said, confirming that he had been in “confidential negotiations” since being approached by the Falcons “some months ago.”
The bigger question, in our view, is whether Bon Jovi could eventually aim even higher, especially since league rules require one person to own 30 percent of a team in order to be the majority owner.
Heck, if Jon changes his name to “Bon Rooney,” he might even be able to pull it off with only 15 percent.
