More than seven months ago, Vikings coach Brad Childress intimated that he thought the Saints were intentionally trying to injure Brett Favre in the NFC Championship.
And with the Vikings season opening in New Orleans in four days, Childress is being asked about the Saints’ tactics once again. (Editor’s Note: Only four days. Finally. Hell yes.)
“I understand a quarterback’s going to get hit, people are going to get hit. It’s football. I don’t have any illusions about that. What I hate to see are late hits or attempts to hurt anybody. I don’t think there’s a place for that in the game,” Childress said Sunday.
As our friend Bob Glauber of Newsday points out in an article behind a paywall you don’t pay for, Chilly is likely just trying to get the attention of officials and perhaps a few Saints players.
Brett Favre doesn’t sound too worried about it.
“I’ve heard that from a lot of people and you no what my response is? It’s football,” Favre said.
Drew Brees said nearly the same thing: “I don’t think they hit him illegally in any way. Do I think they hit hard? Yeah. . . . Everybody loves hitting the quarterback.”
And with that, we’d like to retire the dirty hit theme for the week. Four days.
