Brent Celek: The world is laughing at the Eagles
Philadelphia tight end Brent Celek has heard all the people joking about the “Dream Team” nickname and chuckling about how the all-hype Eagles are 4-8. And he says he and his teammates should have enough pride over the final month of the season to try to change those perceptions.
“We’ve got four games left to prove that we’re a legitimate team, because right now the world’s laughing at us,” Celek told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
If by “legitimate” Celek means .500, then he’s right: If the Eagles run the table they’ll finish 8-8. But nothing the Eagles could do in their final four games would make this season anything other than a failure.
Celek knows that the Eagles have failed this year, and he’s shaking his head about how a team with such high hopes could have such miserable results.
“We’ve got a lot of talent, and we’re just not living up to it,” Celek said. “I’m embarrassed about it. I’m sick about it.”
At least those comments show that Celek cares. Watching the Eagles this year, you get the feeling that not all of his teammates do.
