Brett Favre rapidly went from the most beloved man in Green Bay to the most despised man in Green Bay as a result of his retirements and un-retirements that saw him end his career with the division rival Vikings, and so there’s been much speculation about when or if Favre would ever return to Green Bay.
It turns out that Favre will be in Green Bay today.
Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that Favre is heading back to Green Bay to pay tribute to another former Packers quarterback, Bart Starr, who is being honored at an event in Green Bay today. Starr is recovering from a stroke and is unable to attend the event. According to Mortensen, Favre has no plans to attend tonight’s Falcons-Packers game at Lambeau Field.
Eventually, Favre is expected to be honored at a ceremony at Lambeau Field at which his number will be retired. That won’t happen this year, but today’s event may be a small step toward Favre feeling more welcome in Green Bay.
