As you’d probably expect, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton tried to play the “on to Tampa Bay” card Wednesday.
But he didn’t let NFL referee Ed Hochuli off the hook, either.
Newton tried to scoot past an initial question about his Sunday allegation that Hochuli told him he wasn’t “old enough” to get a borderline call, but when pressed, said he wasn’t surprised by Hochuli’s denial.
“Well, did you expect him to say something else?” Newton replied, via Bill Voth of Black and Blue Review.
Newton clearly has a beef here, as Hochuli said something to him that cause him to visibly recoil int he moment, then he got to watch the NFL go full Frank Drebin at the fireworks factory in the ensuing days.
Earlier in his press conference, he made reference to the call, saying: “I should never have to question my safety.”
Now, the question will become whether questioning the almighty Hochuli will have a residual effect on Newton’s safety. He actually gets a lot of personal foul calls, but that’s as much to do with the fact he runs more than most quarterbacks, thus putting himself in position to take hits.
