The Cardinals made a big splash early by landing guard Mike Iupati as a free agent and they’ve added a second interior offensive lineman to fill out the depth chart in 2015.

The team announced that they have signed center/guard A.Q. Shipley to a two-year contract.

Shipley was not tendered as a restricted free agent by the Colts, who had him in 2012 when Bruce Arians spent most of the season as the team’s interim coach. Shipley was traded to Baltimore the next year and then was claimed off waivers by the Colts just before the start of the 2014 season.

Shipley started the first four games of the season at center, but was sent to the bench as the team got healthier up front and played sparingly over the rest of the season. Iupati and Jonathan Cooper likely have first crack at the guard jobs, but Shipley may be able to push veteran Lyle Sendlein at center with a strong offseason. If not, he’ll give the Cardinals solid depth at both positions.
