Cardinals sign RB David Johnson, TE Gerald Christian

The Cardinals are almost done with draft-pick deals.

Arizona has signed Northern Iowa running back David Johnson (Round Three) and Louisville tight end Gerald Christian (Round Seven), the club said on its website Monday.

The 6-foot-1, 224-pound Johnson is the primary new addition to the Cardinals’ backfield for 2015. At the least, he should get some carries behind Andre Ellington. The 23-year-old Johnson rushed for more than 1,000 yards per season and five yards per carry in each of his final three collegiate seasons, racking up 287 carries for 1,553 yards and nine TDs in 2014.

Christian (6-3, 244) was the final pick in the draft. He hauled in 32 passes for 384 yards and five TDs in his final collegiate campaign in 2014. Christian will compete for a backup spot.

The Cardinals’ lone unsigned pick is first-rounder D.J. Humphries, an offensive tackle from Florida.
