The Chargers don’t figure to be big spenders, but they’re using the weekend to take care of some of the smaller items on their shopping list.

Having already signed their long snapper to a four-year contract, they’ve also reached a four-year contract with kicker Nick Novak, according to Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego.

Novak replaced the injured Nate Kaeding early last season, and didn’t miss a field goal from inside 50 yards.

The early deal allows the San Diego native to stay with his boyhood team, and allows the Chargers to concentrate on offense and defense when the league year starts Tuesday.
