Last year, Chargers offensive tackle Michael Harris was an undrafted rookie and therefore not invited to the NFL’s rookie symposium. This year, Harris is a speaker at the symposium.
The NFL sent Harris to Ohio to speak at the symposium last week, as an example of a player who had worked hard and exceeded expectations as a rookie, starting nine games for the Chargers last season.
“I told them I had a chip on my shoulder, not even knowing if I was going to make the team, and every day going out there and fighting,” Harris told Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego. “I also told them nobody’s job is ever secure because guys like me that aren’t drafted come in and are hungry.”
The bad news for Harris is that after the Chargers drafted tackle D.J. Fluker in the first round this year, and signed tackles Max Starks and King Dunlap, he’s right back where he was last year: A young guy just fighting for a roster spot.
