Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman has not been taking part in team drills during OTAs the last two weeks because of a hamstring issue, but he appeared to be feeling pretty well on Saturday.
Perryman was at a charity dodgeball event hosted by teammate Corey Liuget and a video on his Instagram shows him going all out to fulfill Patches O’Houlihan’s five D’s of dodgeball: dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge. While that might endear him to the crowd at Average Joe’s, it wasn’t met with much enthusiasm by coach Mike McCoy. McCoy said he spoke to the 2015 second-round pick about avoiding such activities when he hasn’t been cleared to do his job.
“It’s been discussed,” McCoy said, via U-T San Diego. “That’s all I’m going to say. I’ve discussed it with him. That’s it. You’ve got to get past these tests here before you do all of that stuff.”
There’s no sign that Perryman aggravated the injury as a result of his time on the dodgeball court, although you can understand why the Chargers would prefer he avoid the risk altogether. That said, it may also be time to get the rookie some more work on the field given how limber Perryman looked in the video.
