One of the first people mentioned as the possible new general manager in Chicago will be interviewing for the job in the near future.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Chiefs have granted the Bears permission to interview Chiefs director of pro personnel Chris Ballard, whose name actually got linked with the job before the Bears actually created an opening. The interview is expected to take place in Chicago on either Friday or Saturday.
Ballard was linked to the opening in Chicago almost immediately after Phil Emery was dispatched with much of the speculation stemming from the 12 years that Ballard spent in the Bears organization before jumping to Kansas City before the 2013 season. Ballard drew some interest from the Bucs when they were looking for a general manager at this time last year, but turned down the opportunity to interview for the job.
Giants vice president of player evaluation Marc Ross, Ravens pro personnel director Vince Newsome and Titans vice president of player personnel Lake Dawson have also been mentioned as candidates in Chicago.
