Michael Vick isn’t the only new Jet picking a new number.

Vick, who previously wore No. 7, originally said he’d wear No. 8 with the Jets, then changed his mind and picked No. 1. Now running back Chris Johnson has settled on No. 21.

Johnson’s number in Tennessee, 28, is unavailable in New York: The Jets retired it for Curtis Martin. So Johnson chose 21 instead, although that number wasn’t available either because Ellis Lankster was wearing it. Lankster confirmed on Twitter that Johnson had paid him for it, although he didn’t say how much.

“Can’t say no to money, who would?” Lankster wrote. Lankster will now change to No. 31, previously worn by Antonio Cromartie.
