The Packers were unhappy with the roughing the passer penalty that linebacker Clay Matthews picked up for a hit on Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder Sunday. So they’ll be happy to know that Matthews wasn’t fined.

The league office confirmed to PFT that Matthews did not get fined this week.

Although the NFL didn’t actually come out and say that the roughing the passer penalty was a blown call, it clearly was: Matthews led with his shoulder and hit Ponder in the midsection just as Ponder was delivering the pass. It was a good, clean hit that never should have been flagged.

NFL referees still get roughing the passer wrong too often, but at least the league office got the decision not to fine Matthews right.
