The Saints didn’t make an official announcement about linebacker Craig Robertson joining the team on Wednesday, but coach Sean Payton made an unofficial one while talking to the media.
Payton talked about Robertson and recent signing Nathan Stupar as strong special teams players who he believed would help the Saints in that area during the 2016 season. It could be longer than that for Robertson as PFT has learned, via a league source, that the former Brown has agreed to a three-year deal.
Robertson has a fair amount of starting experience in addition to his special teams background. He made 34 starts over the last three seasons as an inside linebacker in the Browns’ 3-4 look.
The Saints have also signed James Laurinaitis, who is ticketed for the middle of the defense, and have Stephone Anthony and Hau’oli Kikaha back for their second NFL season.
